HALO Inc. is a private agency offering community based residential treatment to serve adults with disabilities. The program is incorporated with the State of Virginia and licensed with the DMRMHSAS. HALO Inc. intends to serve individuals who are dually diagnosed with mental retardation as the primary diagnosis and mental illness as the secondary diagnosis. The individuals must have significant limitations and adaptive skills in two or more of the following areas: communication, self-care, home living, social skills, community use, self-direction, health and safety, functional academics, leisure and work. HALO Inc. program is based on the values that everyone deserves and needs to belong, to be loved, to be treated with dignity and respect, to be self-directing, and to be recognized for their inherent values as a unique person. Another guiding value is the right of persons with disabilities to be a part of the community, with the same opportunities, responsibilities, and quality of life as available to all citizens. HALO Inc. uses a person centered approach in the provision of services. The overall goal of services is to promote acceptance in the normal life of the community in which the individual resides through social integration and participation in community opportunities. Training activities produce outcomes for the individuals and skills are integrated to appropriate environments. The program's aim is to train, teach and prepare each individual with the knowledge and skills to help them reach their potentials. Training will be based on the results of clinical assessments and personal goals.
